68th Autumn Tour for Vintage Cars – Automobiles and Motorcycles

Sunday 18 September 2016

Simply horrible, inhospitable, wet, freezing cold, the weather at our 68th autumn trip on September 18th, 2016.

You just want to stay in bed. That's what many of our members and guests thought. One visitor said "dead as a doornail" today in the KAUFLAND car park! Minus record for our trips. Even Adi (a tough guy) who came with his trailer swapped it again because of the constant rain and rode along as a passenger in Paul's VOLVO Amazon. The showmen at the Oktoberfest in Munich were also drenched. Yes, it is important to report on the weather, because that is one of the main criteria for our classic car trips. And yes, I admit that I left my convertible classic car in the garage. I didn't want it to get wet and (perhaps) start to rust again! To protect the 48-year-old material of my classic car! No, I don't regret anything. That's why I drove along in my private car and my charming passenger Heidi as the last of the small convoy. Of course, the very last was our "rag collector" Johann Böck, who remained "unemployed" and didn't have to pick up anyone. No wonder, with only 26 cars and 6 motorcycles. He was compensated by the beautiful route, the delicious lunch and the wonderful plum cake with coffee at the final destination, the Kiermeir Inn. It looks like we'll repeat this tour, hopefully in better weather.KG

Our bus trip to the Horch Museum from 8 to 10 July 2016

On July 8, 2016, 26 members and 4 guests set off at 6 a.m. on a 3-day bus trip to Saxony. The group set off north from the Dachau fairgrounds in the comfortable coach of our member and bus operator Edi Simperl. After a good 2.5 hours of driving, the first stop was made for a white sausage breakfast at the Frankenfarm Himmelkron. There, the 1st chairman Claus Thiemicke received his group, which had been looked after up until then by the 2nd chairman Johann Böck and Jochen Seyboth.

Once we were well-fortified, Armin drove us to the Horch Museum in Zwickau in the best weather for travelling. The museum visit showed us many beautiful exhibits from the Autounion up to 1945. The Horch, DKW, Wanderer and Audi brands were united under the Autounion. The design of the exhibition with shops, streets and petrol stations from this period was impressive. I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves here. After two hours, Armin led us unerringly over the Ore Mountains to Dresden. The hotel was centrally located in the new city between the main train station and the old town. Both sights were just a few minutes' walk away. After a wonderful day of travelling, we went to the 1st Dresden sausage kitchen for dinner together in a great mood and rounded off the day. Everyone enjoyed it.

On Saturday, the city tour was scheduled for 3 hours. Armin drove the bus and tour guide Heike from Dresden explained her hometown to us in a relaxed and humorous way. We were also able to explore the old town on foot with Heike. There were the city's sights such as the celebrity district of Blasewitz with its beautiful villas, Elbe castles, Zwinger, Semper Opera, Procession of Princes, Elbe Terraces and Frauenkirche. After a short break at leisure, we continued on to the tour of the glass factory, today a ghost factory that has been converted into a museum. The exhibition was about electromobility from 1976 to the present. There were also some beautiful pre-war vintage cars to admire. To round off the day, we tired warriors went to the Altmarktkeller and had another excellent meal, although our Johann Böck wasn't really full.

On Sunday the morning was free and 6 members visited the Dresden Transport Museum. The rest looked around the city and stopped off at the Elbe Terraces for a break. At 11:30 a.m. we headed back towards Dachau. Because traveling makes you hungry, we had a coffee break at the Frankenfarm. What do coffee and cake mean to our Johann? Look at the pictures! Claus Thiemicke left the group here again.

There was one small disappointment, however, because our honorary chairman Karl Goeb was unfortunately unable to travel with us as planned for personal reasons, which was a real shame. But anyone who knows him knows that he loves the club and, in a very modern way, he sent his best wishes to Dresden via WhatsApp.

Conclusion: A very nice trip with fantastic weather and everyone enjoyed it very much. Let's see what we come up with for the next bus trip.

2nd Youngtimer meeting on Sunday 17.07.2016

on the Ernst - Reuter - Platz in Dachau East

After the success of the first meeting last year and a lot of positive feedback, the new edition in 2016 was obvious: The association Bürgertreff-Ost eV and the Freunde alter Fahrzeuge eV called on the owners of two- and four-wheeled collector vehicles aged 25 and over to come to this year's Youngtimer meeting - and many came!

At first, things didn't look good at all: Heavy, persistent rain forced the hard-working helpers from the Friends of Old Vehicles Dachau eV to close the convertible roofs and set up our pavilion and everything else in the rain.

But everything turned out well: at 9:50 a.m. the sun came out and stayed. The square filled up noticeably and the cars had to be parked in the third row at times. The girls from the Bürgertreff-Ost provided a constant supply of coffee, cake and free drinks.

Anyone who wanted to fortify themselves with beer and a hearty lunch was in good hands at the local Greek restaurant.

As was the case last year, there were many informal petrol-related conversations and useful contacts - one person knew a good saddler, another was very familiar with the rare 190 four-valve Mercedes engine and so on and so forth....

In addition to the classic cars from the 80s and 90s, there were also many considerably older vehicles. A Mercedes 170 S with a funeral trailer - including a coffin - caused quite a stir! A Zündapp lawn mower from the Dachau Zündapp Club was more hidden away.

In total, at least 70 cars came, but fewer two-wheelers than in 2015. The mopeds, mokicks and motorcycles will have a better place in 2017. The square was still so full in the afternoon that the end of the event was moved from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

We are already looking forward to the next Youngtimer meeting in 2017!

Remembering our long-standing honorary chairman
Rudi Straube

On July 7, 2015, a year ago, our founding father, long-time first chairman and honorary chairman, passed away. We think of our Rudi with great respect and appreciation. The year of mourning for his family and the club has passed so quickly. His wife is still in the club today and is actively involved in every event. She also came along on our museum trip.

Appointment of Karl Goeb as Honorary Chairman

on May 3, 2016

On May 3, 2016, our long-standing member, who has been a member for over 25 years, 15 of which as first chairman, was honored for his special services to the club during the club evening. The board unanimously decided to appoint our Karl as honorary chairman and honorary member. The board made the appointment and presented him with the certificate of honor in a ceremonial manner and with great applause.

Our 67th spring trip from 05.06.2016

"The day the rain came" ....one could say it again and again. You can advertise as much as you like, but if the weather gods don't cooperate, then an open-air event like this will literally fall through. No wonder, given the terrible weather reports all week! And so it was that we had to take shelter under the canopy of the Kaufland entrance before we even started. So only hardy old cars and motorcycles that weren't afraid of a bit of rain took part in this beautiful tour to Mauern. After lunch at the "Alten Wirt" in Mauer, the convertible roofs could even be opened and the clouds gradually disappeared. See the photo gallery below.

Here is another article from our correspondent Josef Ostermair from the DN:

The year has already started very well

Our club landlord and club member Klaus Kiermeir (top right) celebrated a milestone birthday on January 13, 2016. He is now 60 and has invited all of his family, relatives, friends and acquaintances to a celebration in his restaurant in Arzbach. A small delegation from the friends of old vehicles was also there. Our 1st FaF boss Claus Thiemicke insisted on the opportunity and presented a gift basket as a congratulations.
